Social media does scare many organizations but there competitors or enemies are starting to use it and making it there friend to get there name and message out to potential customers. The question that companies have when starting to get into social media are should we do it? What will happen? Can something go wrong? How do we gain readership and so on. They need to realize that in order to compete with competitors they need to make social media there friend!
Customers are looking to have conversations . When companies engage them they increase the amount of people that know the company and build relationships with them. That’s what social media is all about!
The best part about social media is that the sites are free and simple to set up. You can even track the hits and usage that takes place.
Customers want to hear from people that do the work which means that employees as well as CEO’s should write blogs. When they write, openness and authenticity are essential. The most important aspect of a blog is to show that you are listening and understanding customers because they will be impressed if an issue or concern takes place and you answer it.
Comments are unique because today many employees are scared of speaking there mind. As a company you want people to believe they can say what they please. A good idea is for companies to have an internal blog where questions are answered that may deal with employee issues and concerns. As a leader of a company this is an easy way to show people that you are listening to them and acknowledging their wishes.
What surprised me was the approach taken to convey the point of company blogs. As an organization you can talk about your expectations, approaches, current events and what the future holds. Even a company’s blog takes time to grow and comments will eventually become common but you should also invite comments to increase readership. The easiest way to do that is by asking questions and getting other people’s ideas and feedback on a particular topic.
I think it is great that this has become another dynamic way to work together in an office with people from different parts of the country or the world, which I would like to learn more about. It provides and open door for communication and has given people the opportunity to be flexible and adaptable in a work setting. I believe that people are always working especially when they are not at their desk and this is due to the constant use of social media. So the question remains is companies implementation of social media friend or foe?
